The NephCure Patient Summit

Join us in San Diego to learn, engage, and connect at one of the world’s largest gatherings of rare kidney disease patients, caregivers, health care professionals, researchers, and partners!

Please note: both the Patient Summit and Youth Summit are SOLD OUT as of April 4, 2023.

We are pleased to offer the 2023 summit experience in-person at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. The sixth annual NephCure Patient Summit will offer a day and a half of educational sessions, engaging speakers, and interactive breakouts, highlighting advances in rare kidney disease treatment options and research, as well as providing practical information to help patients and care partners better understand and live with rare, protein-spilling kidney diseases.

Plus, returning this year by popular demand: the second annual NephCure Youth Summit with dedicated programming just for kids!

Speakers and Topics

The world's leading experts on protein-spilling kidney diseases and other rare disease professionals are joining us to cover topics including:

  • Progress in rare kidney disease research
  • Disease education and information for newly diagnosed patients
  • What every patient should know about FDA-approved treatments
  • Innovations in kidney transplantation
  • Coping with co-morbidities and the challenges of living with a rare kidney disease
  • Diet & nutrition guidance and a live cooking demonstration
  • Preventing caregiver burnout
  • Live, in-person support groups
  • And more!

"The medical information on new research gives a lot of hope. Also, simply spending time with other families that know what it's like to go through this is amazing. Every NephCure event feels like a giant reunion!"

Summit registration and hotel room fees will not be refunded after March 1, 2023. Prior to this date, registration fees can be refunded minus a $25 service charge and room fees can be refunded minus a $150 service charge.

Youth Summit

PLEASE NOTE: As of March 7, the Youth Summit is SOLD OUT.

We're excited to welcome back a limited number of youth participants for the second annual NephCure Youth Summit! The Youth Summit is open to kids ages 8-18 whose parent(s) have also registered for the NephCure Patient Summit. Because kidney disease affects the entire family, siblings are welcome to register as well.

The Youth Summit will take place simultaneously to the Patient Summit. Attendees will be split into small groups based on age and led by qualified volunteers and NephCure Staff. They will enjoy most meals with the adult Patient Summit and split off into their own meeting space for the remainder of their time together.

Youth Summit attendees will spend time learning and connecting with each other as they participate in educational sessions, team-building exercises, guided activities, and games, both as a large group and in small groups. Topics will include learning more about their disease, guided art therapy, talk it out sessions, and more. After lunch on Friday, attendees and their leaders will enjoy an off-site adventure at the San Diego Zoo.

Please note: We are not able to accommodate all special needs. Please contact Kelly Helm at khelm@nephcure.org with questions prior to registering.

COVID-19 Requirements

We recognize that many of our patient families are uniquely impacted by COVID-19. Our priority is to ensure the Summit is as safe as possible for all attendees. All attendees will be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test completed within 1 day (24 hours) of April 20.

Accommodations

The Summit will be held at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, a waterfront hotel in downtown San Diego, but Summit attendees are welcome to book accommodations anywhere they'd like.

For those wishing to stay at the Marriott Marquis, we are offering the option to book a room through NephCure when registering for the Patient Summit. This $300 fee, separate from the price of Summit admission, includes one (1) room at the Marriott Marquis for up to four (4) people for the nights of Thursday, April 20 and Friday, April 21, 2023. Wheelchair accessible rooms are available upon request.

Depending on availability, attendees can extend their stay at the Marriott Marquis to include the night of Saturday, April 22 for a discounted room rate of $249. Please contact Kimberly Figgs at kfiggs@nephcure.org to confirm availability and extend your stay.

Meals

NephCure will provide a welcome dessert reception on Thursday evening; breakfast, lunch, and a snack on Friday; and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. All meals will have low-sodium, gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. Ingredient lists are available for each meal by asking the waitstaff. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate specific renal diets in a large group setting.

For meals not provided by NephCure, the hotel offers seven food and beverage options. There are also many affordable dining options within walking distance or a short car ride in the Gaslamp Quarter, a lively downtown neighborhood of San Diego.

Community-Building Free Time

The Summit is a busy weekend of learning and connecting. We ask that attendees take part in all sessions and save outside activities for the evenings. We have consciously reserved the evenings to allow our community members to further connect with one another while enjoying all the fun San Diego has to offer! Summit attendees will receive more information about optional community-building opportunities upon registration.
